Esora
Esora served as Tesara’s secondary Glatorian for much of her life, a contemporary of Kiina, Gelu and Malum. A fierce combatant who was willing to hazard all in defence of her homeland, she would often travel far afield to fight for resources when Vastus was not able to.
Esora would later train Gresh as the new secondary Glatorian for her tribe. Shortly after the Skrall moved south, however, she was tragically cut down in an arena match against an Elite Skrall. To this day, she is sorely missed by the denizens of Tesara and the generation of Glatorian she inspired.
She wielded a Double Sword and a Thornax Launcher.
I originally built Esora in early 2009. This version featured a robotic hand because I broke one of the dark green fists that came with Gresh. She had lots of silver and dark green so it’s refreshing to bring her back with a recolored helmet and brighter colors.
Please consider leaving a thoughtful comment!

“Bara Magna, a place once devoid of hope and a future. Barbarism and treachery ran rampant on this dead planet. No matter what people say it was a dying world with a dying people, glatorian and agori alike. However this all changed when a stranger wondered into their way of life. Unscared by the sands on the never ending desert, with a shine to his armor no being had seen in a millennium. This newcomer to the society in only a short time uprooted everything we knew, defeating the Skrall and gathering all the villagers together so he can regain power for a battle beyond our understanding. The fallout of that battle was not what I had expected. Instead in destruction across the planet but rather the stranger won and gave birth back to the planet. New life was breathed into its core and surface. Once again the world was green and vibrant with an unending number of new strangers and creatures pouring out onto the land as if an ark had reached its destination. Most rejoiced at all these events as one would expect. Blindness of the ignorant is contagious and almost none see the true villany that has become apparent to those who can see. Like a parasite that has been welcomed into one's home this evil comes from falsely given trust and layed weapons to a warrior's arrival. Conquerors that need not strike fear nor pain upon its victims but rather to swap out our lives and culture as their backs are turned to greet these smiling overlords. These beings need not force a takeover as time itself shall grant them this victory. Eventually all agori and glatorian will bow down to these abominations parading around as heroes, saviors looking down upon us the “primitives” whose lives need “guidance” from the history and ways of our people. However I shall not let our heritage be buried in the soil of this new world. I shall claim my place as the one who is enlightened to this battleless war and protect that is what makes us a people. To preserve what we know and what we have created from our hands. The society that was born from the blood of our past. The society that was formed from the necessity of survival. The society that gave peace to a war torn world. The society that was abandoned by its lords and creators. The society that bore me and molded me to be the heir to the glatorian way. I am Gritarus, prince of Bara Magna and the only one with the clarity and will to lead our kind from extinction. “

Oh hey, a custom Bionicle/Hero Factory head pack
(cannot seem to find any on the web, or I'm bad at finding things, so)
There is mainly two head types in the pack, Matoran Universe head and Agori/Glatorian head. Had to differentiate them cause apparently they have different eye heights and the latter type is a lot less forgiving in space
The Matoran Universe head is compatible with Mata, Metru, Okoto connections (except Hewkii Mahri's Garai, rip, also prolly Teridax's Kraahkan). The Agori/Glatorian head is compatible with Agori/Glatorian, HF Breakout, HF Brain Attack (screw HF 2.0 and 3.0 heads)
(Edit) Things to note about the models:
-Garai is incompatible due to space needed for the Okoto's mask connections, may be revised soon
-had to cut a bit of the bar from the HF Brain Attack to make the head fit into Agori/Glatorian helmets
-Agori/Glatorian heads are smushed to make sure Brain Attack visor+helmet fits
-the heads are a little bit taller (half an axle/pin taller) for light pipings
-will prolly edit the models soon so the light pipings will work better, especially for the nyan head
-idk why but stud.io seem to make the parts ricochet wildly when inserted
Also bonus torso piece and foot, its articulated (why haven't they thought of this)
Also apparently every rendering software I had broke when I tried exporting the stud.io model for render
File is here, idk what other free anonymous file hosting sites there is, remind me if you want it reuploaded since PixelDrain only hosts it for a few months

Toa Chiara - Duckbricks Yesterday Quest Fanon Competition
This is my design of Toa Chiara, from Bionicle's last unfinished serial the Yesterday Quest, for Duckbricks' latest Fanon Design Competition.
This concept of Chiara plays up her personality and role as a lone hunter - I wanted her to come off aloof and fleet of foot. Her feet have hinge cylinders allow her toes to flex back and forth - I imagine her having a digitigrade gait by default. Her torso is my own original design, but generally speaking I went for design cues from the Glatorian era of Bionicle - the era in which her story is set. That said, I did give her a 2001-style hand with taser elements, mainly because I thought it was cool. The spear lightning would ideally be the transparent-purple version of the part, but white works too. Most notable among Chiara's design is the manica arm-guard on her right arm, made from stolen Vorox armour pieces - I envision this as her triumphant escape from captivity, claiming the armour of her erstwhile captors as a trophy.
All parts are canon-compliant, though I did need to get custom models for the Stud.io renders of some parts.

Forever ago when you were talking about Gaardus you mentioned you made a custom head out of the Stars sets. Can you please share it? I am deadly curious since the Stars sets have like 3 pieces each.
Y’know what? I made a mock-up for an alternate Stars combiner, and with this ask, I finally decided to just buy all six Stars sets and make it a reality; So here it is!!!
Consider this a different take on Gaardus, based on how he’s depicted in the story; He’s a carnivore and a hunter, meant to be a living weapon, and Pohatu suggested Gaardus must’ve blended in with actual Rahi during the evacuation to Spherus Magna. So I worked with that prompt to create something that actually looked bestial, and had a proper mouth… Alas, the mouth can’t move but there aren’t exactly a lot of pieces to work with here! Hence Gaardus’ hind feet being Glatorian hands.
I had a lot of fun coming up with this design, first on paper and then applying it in-person, and changing it up as I experimented with the actual pieces in hand. I’m particularly happy with how I managed to upgrade the wings from my original draft, so now they’re actually big and prominent enough to fly with, as described in The Powers That Be. Speaking of…
Here’s Gaardus next to a Mata build, my own take on Takanuva based on the pieces I had. So here’s a general idea for scale against Kopaka and Pohatu, and the wings are posable and big enough to go around two more figures, to reenact the scene where the trio are teleported to the Red Star.
My main objective, other than the ones stated above, was just to make a combiner that actually felt like it was having fun and trying to be creative, rather than slapping limb pieces onto Tahu and calling it a day. Apologies if I’m bragging, but I’m quite chuffed with how Gaardus turned out, especially with the color scheme, since making him not a rainbow eyesore was also another goal of mine. I find it ironic how the official Gaardus combiner is just Tahu at its core, whereas my version uses only one piece for Gaardus’ upper jaw.
Technically it’s two pieces if you include Gaardus’ sword, which I did add because of a brief mention in the story itself, though Gaardus’ legs are admittedly standard-length and not long as they’re described. His weapon being a ‘sword of fire’ also gave me an excuse to add another piece from Tahu, in a way that didn’t jeopardize the color scheme too jarringly. Keeping the colors I chose -gray, black, white, silver, and lime green- distributed evenly was another fun challenge.
Since this was supposed to be a Stars combiner, I made sure to include as many pieces as I could from every set. These are all my leftover pieces;
Technically speaking, I should also have Tahu’s feet and Gresh’s ankles here, but unfortunately the seller forgot to include those pieces. Not that it matters, as I never expected to use those pieces due to the color scheme I’d already settled on, but still. I was also missing Takanuva’s ankles, but I had pieces to substitute on hand. My alt Gaardus build pulls primarily from Takanuva, Skrall, Rahkshi, and Gresh; Nektann is just gonna have to learn to live without feet, and Tahu is only missing his sword but still has the Golden Armor to compensate. This was honestly an incredibly fun challenge; Working within limitations really does breed creativity, huh? This must be what the official designers felt like making all of the other combiners for Bionicle.

How in tarnation do you use stud.io without going nuts?
I spent about 4 hours the other day trying to add a piece onto a mata torso so that itd be resized to inika scale and almost threw my comp out of a window.
Though honestly I probably oughta get that box of parts I have lying around and prototype with that.
If you think that building physically first for a prototype will help, go for it! I don't personally do that, but I know a lot of people do, and it works for them.
Regarding the mata torso thing, I could probably help with that, but first I'd need to know what part you were trying to add, where you were trying to connect it to, and what the problem was (was it clipping, or just not connecting?). And if you were using part designer that's an entire other can of worms.
Tips for Studio in general, though:, a lot of my characters use the same three custom torso designs, so I only have to build them once or twice (some have two different necks, depending on if they're using a metru or glatorian/G2/HF head) so I just copy it and and re-color it. I also use a lot of CCBS, which uses much less parts and is generally easier to work with then complex technic. My stuff isn't usually that complicated.
For complex technic when the axle/pin keeps on going in OH MY GOD THAT'S THE WRONG FUCKING HOLE, THE OTHER ONE, NO NOT THAT ONE THAT'S TOO FAR GOD DAMN IT, try using the connect tool to get it slightly in. What you want to do then is click the piece, press T and use the arrow keys to move it slightly. If even that is too much you might have to manually punch in the numbers.
Also, I've been using stud.io since 2018 and have experience with the much more annoying Lego Digital Designer, so I'm just used to the bullshit.
Thanks for the ask, dude!

Since I know how it happened, and thus how to replicate it, I'm trying to think of what other colour combinations would look like. Silver with brown specks for rust? Very dark gray with black, brown, and green specks for a custom style of infected masks? Even just adding some flair to Glatorian armour and helmets further down the line, give them a more natural and weathered look than the prim clean of a maintained Toa?
It's not too late for a MASK MONDAY!!
Now, I know what you're thinking. "Oh cool, you're getting close to Dark Red!" Or maybe "Wow! That looks like the elusive Rust!" But lemme share something interesting.
This was an attempt at Purple.
Where's the Blue, you ask?
All in tiny dots throughout, subtly darkening what should otherwise be brighter than Mata Red.
What.

How do you think each Turaga would respond to being called grandpa (or grandma)? Bonus points, how would the Toa respond to being called dad (or mom)?
Turaga
Vakama- Glares at the Matoran for a moment, trying to work out if he’s being insulted, realises he probably isn’t, gives a small, very fleeting smile, and then carries on with whatever he was doing.
Nokama- Raises one eyebrow, quietly contemplates the new title for a moment and silently accepts it with a solemn nod. Two seconds later, her composure breaks and she pulls the startled Matoran in for a hug.
Onewa- Looks thoughtfully at the Matoran who said it, looks at his hammer staff, looks again at the Matoran’s head. Matoran usually gets the message. Onewa is smiling though. They might try it again sometime. From a safe distance.
Matau- Feigns crying, bemoans that he’s too young for this, he’s not even technically older than them, he’s only 58 000 thank you very much- practically an adolescent in Agori years, he did nothing to deserve such callous cruelty from his own Matoran. He loves it though.
Nuju- For once, he does not have a snarky retort. He makes a soft clicking noise under his breath, and then immediately turns and leaves. He’s going to have to Think about this. Give him a few weeks.
Whenua- Says nothing but immediately lights up with a beaming smile and pats the Matoran roughly on top of the mask
Dume- I don’t think anybody actually would, but if they did he would try and have a law passed against it before too long.
Toa
Tahu- Gives a very stern look for a moment, then breaks into a grin and hugs the Matoran.
Gali- Laughs with delight and hugs the Matoran.
Lewa- He’s always thought of Matoran as little brothers so this is a bit of a shift for him, he needs a few seconds to process this. Then he remembers that one of the cultural customs of being a Dad involves telling horrendously bad jokes all the time. Mission accepted. Hugs the Matoran.
Pohatu- Cries. Hugs the Matoran.
Kopaka- Actually just smiles. It’s beautiful.*
Onua- Grins and realises he can start calling the Matoran “Son”. Something deep inside him has been waiting for this day. All Onu-Matoran are Son. Younger Toa are Son. Agori and some Glatorian are Son. There is no stopping him now. Dad mode activated**. Hugs the Matoran.
Takanuva- Takanuva.exe has Stopped Working. Please check back later.
*Ko-Matoran are typically not into hugs. If one did hug Kopaka, he would hug back and deliver awkward pats on the back, but he doesn’t initiate hugs himself.
** Onua must never find out about the existence of Crocs. Or how comfortable they are with socks. He is already too powerful.
#As for the Mahri I think they would all be weirded out since the Matoran were their friends or siblings and they’d like to keep it that way#Bionicle#Turaga#toa nuva

Had The Dream again last night.
This time it was an order through the mail. A couple of partially assembled sets, I remember there being a few Glatorian. There was a Mahri Hahli set with no mask or weapons, and several of the lime green joints replaced. Instead of her wings, there were giant, dark blue Turahk staff pieces included instead. There were some custom-molded masks, but they felt like they were made of taffy or something. Very strange.

Check out their cool little transformation gimmick! The thornax launcher (not pictured) just rotates into place.
The head is a custom part I made for myself, based off the Furno XL head and visor. After cutting down the visor, I had to fill in the gap for the clip, which provided ample surface area to shift the axle back and accommodate a glatorian head. if you want the files for it, send me a message.

Bone Hunters
The Bone Hunters are the merciless nomadic bandits of Bara Magna. The name has been used for three distinct organisations with only a slight lineage between one another, most recent a a powerful and prolific bandit culture that ruled the wastelands in the millennia between the Shattering and the Reformation.
The Rock Tribe was originally an Agori-Glatorian civilisation like the rest, separate from the Skrall Empire. It was conquered by the Skrall which caused quite the political turmoil. The Great Beings interceded to make peace, a peace which involved legalising the Skrall conquest and christening them the new Rock Tribe. Most of the original Rock Tribe was unhappy with this arrangement, particularly the King and his court. Under cover of darkness the he was smuggled out from under the Skrall’s nose by the military. These escapees formed a resistance group, calling themselves the “Bone Hunters” meant to strike fear into the Skrall. They preformed numerous raids on Skrall outposts, but never successfully liberated their homeland. Over the generations, as the royal bloodline failed, the Bone Hunters degenerated into a bandit clan within Skrall territory.
The Core War dragged on for little under a century. During that time, alliances rose and fell continuously. Soldiers that had fought and suffered fighting a particular tribe were not conducive to suddenly becoming their ally. Loyalty wore thin. The Bone Hunters were having the time of their lives picking off straggling soldiers from battles and stealing their weaponry, but their numbers were slowly growing thin. They managed to find recruits with disillusioned rebelling soldiers, and the Bone Hunter organisation swelled. It ended up a very different organisation though. They weren’t centralised in Rock Tribe territory anymore; they spread across the entire world. Their mission was no longer the restoration of the old Rock Tribe, but taking up personal vendettas soldiers had acquired in the war. The common banner and uniform of the Bone Hunters prevented members originating from enemy tribes from easily recognising and trying to kill one another.
After the Shattering, the bulk of the Bone Hunters were killed. Those that survived had to scratch out a living in the wastelands, with no city to retreat to as nobody would accept them. Those on Bota Magna, despite the better conditions, didn’t last long. Those on Bara Magna, in spite of hardships, managed to survive. The circumstances of this new world forced another change in the Bone Hunter structure. War-time vendettas or the reclaiming of a homeland was no longer as important as the day to day survival. They abandoned their old causes, but retained the Bone Hunter banner as a unifying symbol.
The Bone Hunters of Bara Magna did not start as brutal as they would become. They didn’t always kill those they found, for the most part they accepted those they found into their clans. The Bone Hunters started families, and the organisation became something it had never been before; it became a culture. They were still bandits, killers and thieves beneath it all, so it was a brutal culture, but a culture nonetheless.
Most ruins crumbled into dust within a century, so the Bone Hunters could no longer scavenge amongst them. Most survivors had gathered up into their own tribes and their settlements, so there was no longer anybody to absorb. You were either a Bone Hunter or not now. The city-dwelling tribes, able to produce resources but not all they individually needed, had to trade with the other cities for what they needed. The Bone Hunters took this as their opportunity at living; the raiding of caravans for supplies. While they could hunt and forage for food, they had a chauvinistic dread of “degenerating into savages” so they stole as much modern supplies as they could from the cities.
They frequently raided cities, and when the Skrall migrated south and set up shop in Roxtus, the Bone Hunters attempted to raid them as well. They were completely beaten, though the Skrall held no grudge and allowed the Bone Hunters to trade there. Many Bone Hunter clans made their living capturing and selling slaves to the Skrall. As the Skrall grew ambitious, and with the mediation of an Ice Agori named Metus, the trade agreement between the Bone Hunters and Skrall became a military alliance.
Bone Hunters participated in the Skrall War, and were instrumental in taking Tajun for the Rock Tribe. They also attacked Volcanus but failed to capture it. However, when the tribes united to fight the alliance, it took only a little pressure for the Bone Hunters to abandon the Skrall and flee into the wasteland, picking off fleeing Skrall over the next few weeks.
In the weeks leading to, and after the Reformation, the Bone Hunters found themselves on a rebuilding world with a united populace much better equipped to defend themselves. The Bone Hunters are still managing to pick off a few caravans, but they’re rapidly understanding a change in their ways will be necessary. Many are joining up with the Shadowed One, newly arrived from the giant robot, and his growing legion.
...
Before the Shattering, the Bone Hunters had guns and cars strapped with guns for their banditry. Only a few decades after the Shattering all ammunition and fuel had run out. Like the rest of the population, they resorted to swords and crossbows, and later on the thornax launcher. Replacing the cars was a bigger issue, but they managed to capture some Sand Stalkers from caravans they raided, and over a couple of centuries were able to tame a species of swift theropod that became their main steeds. They still continued to sporadically use Sand Stalkers and Spikits, but Rock Steeds were their preferred mount.
Originally composed of Rock Tribe outcasts, the Bone Hunters became noticeably a multi-racial organisation. During the Core War they recruited from every tribe but the Earth Tribe, even including Skrall, Vorox, and Zesk in their ranks. When the Bone Hunters became a self contained civilisation, mix-marriaged produced a great deal of mixed-race Bone Hunters. One Bone Hunter of note, Fero, was clearly of both Agori and Skrall ancestry.
As a culture, the Bone Hunters were divided into numerous clans, but all united under a common banner. There was a patriarchal edge to their culture, although the survival situation didn’t allow them to shun a woman who liked to fight or a man who liked to cook. Women fighters were common, and were pressured to adopt the same masculine bravado as the men to earn respect. They were somewhat overcautious about incest, and it was custom to only ever marry and have children with somebody from another clan.
They were nomadic, settling up temporary shelter to sleep before moving on. Due to the desert heat, they preferred to remain nocturnal. One tribe made a permanent stronghold for themselves in a cliffside, but after the Skrall War it became too obvious a target for the united tribes or vengeful Skrall, and it was abandoned. Ironically, the Shadowed One took residence there.

Gyraci
"Thank you, that’s very kind. But I’d just disappoint you.”
***
What does it mean to be a warrior when at heart you long for peace?
This is the question that plagues Gyraci. He was once a glatorian, about the same age as Gresh, so he is still considered young by Bara Magna standards. Like Gresh, he spent a long time in training as a glatorian for the Ice Tribe. He eventually came to be known as a prodigy in the art of combat. While all glatorian are skilled fighters, few studied swordplay as carefully and ardently as Gyraci did. He pored over the old books of technique from before the shattering left by Certavus after his passing, and he mastered every one. He could best almost any opponent in a duel while he was still a rookie, and with more speed and grace than glatorian twice his age.
But glatorian did not merely duel. In the harshness of the wastelands, they also had a duty to protect their villagers from attack. As a test in the final days before their induction as a full-fledged glatorian, Gyraci and some of his fellow trainees were tasked with defending a supply caravan crossing the desert, carrying food, water, and exsidian from Tesara to Iconox. Part of Iconox’s reward for a won arena battle.
In the middle of the desert wastes, a swarm of Bone Hunters attacked the Caravan. Gyraci prepared to cut them down... and all of a sudden, he could not lift his sword. This wasn’t the arena any more; he would have to kill these hunters or they would kill him. Was this one caravan really worth killing and dying over? All he could do was hide behind his shield as the bone hunters fell upon him and his friends. For his whole life he had studied to become one of the best warriors in his tribe, but up to this point all of that training had been so sterile and academic. The brutality of actual combat made his heart falter and his stomach turn.
Thankfully, no one died that day. But because of Gyraci’s hesitation, the supplies were lost and many of his fellow warriors wounded. Once the shining star of Iconox’s glatorian trainees, Gyraci was branded as a coward and stripped of his title and his future as an arena warrior. Though he was not banished, Gyraci could feel that he was not liked in Iconox any more. He wandered off into a self-imposed exile. He had a lot of thinking to do anyway.
Gyraci still wanders among the Matagori. He’s made his living taking small jobs here or there, but he has nothing to his name but his sword and shieldstaff, and no real skills except those he is unwilling to use. He wonders on many things. On his cowardice, on death, on the way of the warrior. He wonders especially why he became a warrior in the first place. These new people, the matoran... their religion speaks so much of destiny. What is Gyraci’s destiny? What destined him to study the art of combat, if the very idea of practicing it now sickens him? Could it be that someday, he will find a cause worth fighting for?

It’s a new MOC for ROO. YEET.
This was the guy that was giving me writing troubles for so long. I knew the basic kind of backstory I wanted him to have, but I was struggling with really articulating it. And I’m still not sure I’m entirely in love with his name.
That being said I think he’s one of my favorite ROO mocs visuals-wise. I feel like torsos are always the most boring thing about my mid-sized MOCs cause I don’t know how to make good custom torsos and I always end up just defaulting to a standard set build. But with Gyraci, even if he is just an Inika build underneath I was able to give him some really unique armor. I was gonna make him more normally proportioned, but he ended up with this bulky, rounded look around his torso that I think is actually pretty cool. Kinda like the knights from Fire Emblem. If there’s anything that really discontents me with him it’s his upper arms. His weapons were VERY loosely inspired by the ones T’Challa uses in the duel scenes in Black Panther.
